Manjushri is a bodhisattva, a being who has attained enlightenment but chooses to remain in the cycle of existence to help others achieve liberation. He is known as the bodhisattva of wisdom and is one of the most important figures in Buddhism. In Tibetan Buddhism, Manjushri is often depicted in thangkas, which are traditional Tibetan paintings of silk or cotton. Manjushri is typically depicted as a young, handsome man with two hands, sitting on a lotus flower with his right leg extended. He is usually depicted wearing a crown and holding a flaming sword in his right hand and a book or scroll in his left hand. The flaming sword represents the sharpness of his wisdom, which cuts through ignorance and delusion. The book or scroll represents the knowledge and wisdom that he possesses. In a Manjushri thangka, the bodhisattva is often surrounded by various symbols and depictions of other important figures in Buddhism. For example, he may be surrounded by images of the Buddha, Tara, or other bodhisattvas. These images are meant to reinforce the importance of wisdom in the path to enlightenment and to help the viewer develop a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness of all beings.

Manjushri is an important figure in many Buddhist traditions, including Tibetan Buddhism, where he is considered to be one of the most important bodhisattvas. His teachings on wisdom and insight are essential for any practitioner seeking to attain enlightenment, and his image in a thangka can serve as a powerful reminder of the importance of these teachings.
